După aia pomenește de Edmund Burke. Pomenește de Burke, nu îl citează, fiindcă orice ai cita din Burke îl acoperă de o indelebilă rușine.
Iată ce crede el despre democrație și despre alegeri :

I can never be convinced that the scheme of placing the highest powers of the state in churchwardens and constables, and other such officers, guided by the prudence of litigious attorneys, and Jew brokers, and set in action by shameless women of the lowest condition, by keepers of hotels, taverns and brothels, by pert apprentices, by clerks, shop-boys, hair-dressers, fiddlers, and dancers on the stage, (who, in such a commonwealth as yours, will in future overbear, as already they have over-borne, the sober incapacity of dull, uninstructed men, of useful but laborious occupations,) can never be put into any shape, that must not be both disgraceful and destructive. A da puterea supremă în stat unor țîrcovnici și pîndari, și altor boactări de aceeași teapă, mînați de mintea unor avocați cîrciobari și samsari jidani, îndemnați de curve, hangii, cîrciumari și codoși, de calfe, bărbieri, parlagii și soitari, (această însărcinare, în statul vostru, va copleși curînd, cum a și copleșit, puterile unor mîrlani analfabeți, mujici buni să plugărească și să stea la coada vacii) e ceva care nu poate fi pus în nici o formă, e ceva hidos și distrugător. Nu mă puteți convinge că e altfel. Tot acest proiect, chiar dacă era ce pretinde, și nu e, în realitate, domnia, prin acest mijloc, a vreo cinci, sau mai puțini, politicieni intriganți, e o șmecherie atît de josnică, de tîmpită, de dobitocească, odioasă pentru perversitatea ei. Corectările ei, care ar putea-o face aplicabilă, sînt tot atîtea argumente împotriva ei.
